No Time For Rhymes? Are Nursery Rhymes Being Ignored?

A few weeks ago I was with a kindergarten speech student and he was thinking of rhyming words for a speech activity. I was trying to give him some prompts and I began to use nursery rhymes. To my amazement he did not know any of the popular nursery rhymes that I said to him!

I said, "Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great.....?" He had NO idea what word to fill in. I was quite surprised to say the least. I tried a few more and again, he had no clue.

Upon further investigation I discovered that nursery rhymes may not be introduced or taught in Pre K or Kindergarten. Soooo, parents....Don't forget nursery rhymes! Here is a site for you to check out...
